SmittyDrum MasterClass

Hey everybody! Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a great holiday season. I know I did.

I am starting a masterclass series for those of you who want to polish up on your drumming/songwriting skills  for the new year. These sessions can be done in Nashville or via video chat.

I have been teaching privately for over 20 years. I have received my B.S. (no pun attended) in Music Studies from Brevard College with an emphasis in Marimba Performance and a minor in Jazz History. I studied Music Therapy for 4 years at Tennessee Tech University as well, and have studied Ewe West African Drumming in Ghana, West Africa.

I have also played in symphonies, jazz ensembles and rock bands on many professional levels for over 20 years, too—most recently as the drummer and co-lead singer/songwriter for Truth & Salvage Co., who have been touring back and forth across the U.S. for most of the last five years as both headliners and openers for the Black Crowes, the Avett Brothers, Steve Miller, Levon Helm, Lynyrd Skynyrd and many more.

We can plan a weekly meeting and talk about rhythm facilitation, groove, songwriting, limb independence, playing to a click track, playing without a click track, playing with a band, the psychology of music—whatever you want to talk about, I am all ears. If you are interested, please email me at, or if you know of someone who may be interested, please spread the word!

I hope to to hear from you and will give you more details regarding logistics and scheduling an appointment then. Thanks everybody!
